Xiajiajie Fm
Type Locality and Naming
It was named by the Regional Survey Party of Jilin Province in 1978, and was first cited publicly by the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Jilin Province in 1988. The naming section is located in the vicinity of the Xiajiajie area, Weijin Township, Liaoyuan City, Jilin Province.
Synonym: (夏家街组)
Lithology and Thickness
It is composed largely of spotted andesite, andesite and tuff, intercalated occasionally with sandy conglomerates and siltstones, with a thickness of about 297 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its basal part is in an unconformable contact with the underlying Variscan granite or Taiyangling Fm.
Upper contact
No top found. Regionally, the next younger unit is indicated as the Deren Fm.
Regional extent
The formation belongs to volcanic eruption-facies and fluvial-facies deposits, and is distributed mainly in the Xiaochengzi, Weijin and Daxingzhen areas of the Liaoyuan Basin. It is known as the “Wangjianglou Formation” in the North Hills of Dalizi area of Linjiang County.

Fossils
It yields a late-stage fossils assemblage of the Coniopteris-Phoenicopsis flora important members of which comprise Equisetum sp., Todites cf. williamsoni, Marattiopsis sp., Coniopteris sp., Cladophlebis cf. shansiensis, Ctenis sp., Nilssonia sp., Ginkgo sp., Pseudotorellia sp. and Taeniopteris sp.; as well as bivalve fossils as represented by Ferganoconcha subcentralia and Tutuella sp.
